The newest winner of Tnemec Company’s coveted Tank of the Year competition is the water tank in the city of Destin, Florida. The tank features an exceptional mural design hand painted by Eric Henn, an international muralist. The hyper realistic mural depicts local sea life of the Gulf of Mexico and features a high-performance coating system to ensure its lifespan for years to come.

“This new water tank mural was completed using Tnemec’s high-performance fluoropolymer finish, HydroFlon, to help ensure that the breath-taking design retains its color and shine for as long as possible,” explains representatives of Tnemec Company. They further describe, “…after a lot of planning and a lot of Tnemec coatings, the end result is nothing short of a water tank masterpiece.”

The 750,000-gallon tank, which extends nearly 170 feet in the air, provides much needed water storage to the City of Destin. In a press release by the Destin Chamber, DWU general manager Lockwood Werne, explains, “Since the Tower is located in the heart of Old Destin, we wanted to paint something that paid tribute to the heritage of our community.”

The mural features turtles and dolphins, indigenous to the area, and provides a colorful example of what the region has to offer. As with many tanks across the country, the Destin water tank serves as a reminder to the local community and visitors of the wondrous oceanic environment they get to call home.

The HydroFlon fluoropolymer finish ensures long-lasting gloss and color retention. This next-generation, high-performance fluoropolymer, contains Lumiflon FEVE technology, which is a main contributor to the coating system’s hyper-durability. Lumiflon FEVE resin provides protection to water tank surfaces, helping to prevent coating degradation at the hands of UV radiation, salt, and water. FEVE-based coatings also offer superior color and gloss retention and anti-corrosion properties that maintain the coating’s structural integrity.
