Lions Park is a 40-acre site that rests on the southern edge of rural Greensboro, Alabama. Despite being the largest park in Hale County, the only prominent features the park had were a few baseball diamonds that were frequently flooded with water. When the park was flooded, the grounds would be exposed to the blistering sun without any trees or other structures to provide shade.

The new facility for the new Hampton Roads Trunsit replaces a 3-acre circle of asphalt that stood next to a busy road. The replacement transit hub contains approximately 1,010 panels of Alpolic aluminum composite material for the roofing, which are coated in Lumiflon FEVE resin. Valspar's Valflon, which also uses Lumiflon FEVE resin technology, can be spotted on the inside of the center.

All-Tech Coatings, a specialty division of All-Tech Decorating, out of Chicago Illinois was contracted for a colorful school roof restoration in Steubenville, Ohio. The original baked-on Kynar finish of the standing seam roof had experienced weathering and unexplainable peeling, down to the roof’s primer. This created the perfect opportunity for the high school to not only repaint, but to paint the roof with a color more symbolic to the school. The client chose PPG’s “Surrey Beige” to match the school’s signature colors.

Baked-On Coating Degradation Results In Lumiflon Roof Restoration

Metal roofs are common amongst commercial buildings, for their durability and perceived long life cycles. While these roofs may never need replacement, overtime degradation occurs of the the baked-on PVDF coatings and requires refurbishing, exposing the bare metal underneath, resulting in red rust corrosion that can permanently damage the substrate. For the roof restoration of this Baltimore, Maryland based office building; All-Tech Coatings was contacted for their expertise in recoating. To achieve a factory-like finish that can provide years of service with low wear, All-Tech Coatings applied a coating system that uses PPG’s Coraflon ADS that include Lumiflon FEVE fluoropolymer resins.

The Rising Popularity of FEVE Resins For Roof Recoatings

While Lumiflon fluoropolymer resin coatings can be used for an array of applications, they are seeing increased use for standing seam metal roof restorations. When factory baked-on coatings of these roofs prematurely fail, building owners typically seek recoating versus a costly roof replacement. To satisfy the most demanding requirements from building owners, contractors have turned to Lumiflon FEVE resin based coatings; while popular amongst high performance building projects, these coatings provide the most durable, long lasting, factory like finishes that have proven to exceed their life-cycle expectations.
