The weatherability, longevity and ability to formulate low VOC coatings with LUMIFLON resins all contribute to their sustainability profile. Using LUMIFLON FEVE-based coatings may qualify for the following LEED v4 credits:
Materials and Resources Credit: Building Life-Cycle Impact Reduction
This credit requires demonstrating a reduction in materials use through life-cycle assessment. Materials coated in FEVE resin technology last significantly longer than uncoated materials or those coated with lower-performance products.
Sustainable Sites Credit: Rainwater Management
Applying emulsion-based FEVE coatings over existing roof systems improves the quality of stormwater runoff by preventing water from contacting the underlying roof surface. FEVE coatings are extremely stable and do not bond with water molecules.
Sustainable Sites Credit: Heat Island Reduction
A FEVE clear coating
applied over an existing roof coating helps maintain the roof’s solar reflectivity, reducing the heat island effect. Tests performed in Japan show that FEVE resins reduce dirt accumulation on roofs, helping maintain the effectiveness of reflective roof systems.
FEVE resins have also been formulated into white coatings tested by the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) for Solar Reflectance Index (SRI). With SRI values exceeding 100, FEVE-based coatings qualify as cool roof coatings.
Energy and Atmosphere Prerequisite: Minimum Energy Performance
FEVE coatings on roofs and curtain walls maintain optimal performance after years of exposure to the elements, resulting in reduced heat transfer through the building envelope and lower cooling loads.
