Tnemec Company has been celebrating the innovation of water tank design since 2006 with their annual Tank of the Year competition. In 2021, nearly 300 tanks from around the country were nominated for this award. The Elmendorf, Texas composite water tank takes a spot in ’s Tank of the Year Top 10 list.

The 500,000-gallon capacity water storage tank towers over the city of Elmendorf, serving as a source of small-town pride. The elevated Tank is adorned with its signature logo, a nod to its train town beginnings. The small community in Bexar County dates back to 1885 where it began as a stop on the San Antonio & Aransas Pass Railroad.

The representatives at Company describe, “The tank was coated using a full coating system from Tnemec, including a zinc-rich urethane primer and the performance-proven finish coat, HydroFlon.”

The fluoropolymer finish ensures long-lasting gloss and color retention. This next-generation, high-performance fluoropolymer contains Lumiflon technology, which is the main contributor to the coating system’s hyper-durability. In addition, Lumiflon FEVE resin protects water tank surfaces, helping prevent coating degradation at the hands of UV radiation, salt, and water. FEVE-based also offer superior color and gloss retention and anti-corrosion properties that maintain the coating’s structural integrity.
