The Slidell Cancer Center in Louisiana is a state-of-the-art cancer facility comprised of a masterful combination of both traditional and contemporary materials. The $20 million, three-story structure that was developed by Slidell Memorial Hospital was constructed with the intention of welcoming patients from Louisiana, Mississippi, and the Gulf South Region. The medical facility features a multitude of specialized medical services such as high-dose radiation brachytherapy, image-guided radiosurgery and radiation therapy.
This high-tech cancer center is housed in a gorgeous building that was designed by Marietta-based architecture firm, AE Design. Architects utilized a mixture of traditional materials, like brick, and modern products like glass and aluminum composite material (ACM). Approximately 8,500 square-feet of ACM from ALPOLIC of Chesapeake, Virginia were used for the facility. Altech Panel Systems LLC fabricated each panel, working closely with Applicated Images, who was responsible for installation.
“The Slidell Cancer Center is an excellent example of how a relationship between a panel fabricator and installer can work to everyone’s advantage, especially the owner and architect,” stated George Parrish of GMHORNE. GMHORNE, a Jackson, Mississippi-based company, was involved in the project as the ALPOLIC dealer.
ALPOLIC’s aluminum composite panels offer high-exposure projects like the Slidell Cancer Center many benefits, as each panel is coated with Lumiflon FEVE resin. The fluoropolymer offers surfaces exceptional weatherability, gloss and color retention, and durability. As a result, a coating system can remain intact for decades despite exposure to UV radiation, moisture, salt, and other elemental deterrents.
