The Janus/Riverside commercial building by Brenac & Gonzalez Architects boasts a captivating façade. The eight-story complex is nearly 56,000 square-feet, was completed in 2017 and utilizes an abundance of ALUCOBOND® aluminum composite panels. The panels, in Alucobond’s Mirror and Anodized Look finishes, showcase a playfulness with their reflective nature.
The three-dimensional exterior is “kinetic” as the architects describe, “The north-facing façade is composed of steel prisms that alternate metallic frames and panels. By increasing modules, the façade creates a kinetic effect, an ambiguity that plays with perception.”
The fabricators at TIM Composites completed the project’s unique orientation and showcase the unique abilities of the ALUCOBOND® material, “Aluminum composite’s lightweight and ease of fabrication allows for its manipulation. The ability to transform a flat panel into a bulbous architectural form is the result of the competence of the fabricator as much as the talent of the architect who designed it.”
The mirror finish features a Lumiflon FEVE resin topcoat. The topcoat allows for unparalleled gloss and color retention and also prevents against both chalking and fading. Additionally, the use of a high-performance fluoropolymer topcoat will ensure protection against elemental deterrents that contribute to degradation.
ALUCOBOND® further explains, “The mirrored aluminum composite enables the exterior’s reflective properties interacting with variants of natural light throughout the day.”
