Prior to 2010, Charles Sturt University in Orange, New South Wales, Australia was nothing more than your run-of-the-mill “agricultural college campus.” In 2007, the university received funding from the commonwealth government for a regional school of dentistry and health sciences. With the funds, two teaching and medical facilities were scheduled to be designed and built by mid-2009.

When developing a strategy to implement, while building the new PathWest Laboratory, accessibility to the project site and constructability were two factors that were prioritized. PathWest was the first project of its kind, a major development that occurred in the heart of a busy university medical campus. Built within the confines of the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Center (QEII) in Nedlands, West Australia, the architects at JCY noted it was, “…the first project to be undertaken in a major expansion of health and education facilities which includes both the Department of Health and the University of Western Australia.”

In November 2016, the Aura Boulevard Bridge finally opened for the public. The bridge, located on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, was a $5 million investment that took a year to construct. The structure, which serves as a two-way bridge for cyclists, is the newest method of entry into Aura. Aura is one of Australia’s newest communities; the first in Australia to be built to the world’s highest sustainability standards. The construction of the bridge was a major step in the development of the community.
