In November 2016, the Aura Boulevard Bridge finally opened for the public. The bridge, located on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, was a $5 million investment that took a year to construct. The structure, which serves as a two-way bridge for cyclists, is the newest method of entry into Aura. Aura is one of Australia’s newest communities; the first in Australia to be built to the world’s highest sustainability standards. The construction of the bridge was a major step in the development of the community.

The Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge Is The Lumiflon Coatings Poster Child

Considered to be Japan’s greatest engineering feat, the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge is the longest and tallest suspension bridge in the world. Although its inception stems from a tragic ferry accident, the engineers ensured that the bridge was to be safe, stable and would endure a long coating life-cycle before any maintenance was needed. In order to prevent corrosion from the coastal region on which the bridge is situated, as well as road salts during snow, the bridge’s metal surfaces were coated with a Lumiflon fluoropolymer topcoat.

After almost 70 years of service, the original Topeka Boulevard Bridge connecting North and South Topeka was badly deteriorated. The bridge was rebuilt from 2006 to 2008, with the addition of guarded walkways and aesthetic amenities. The project’s engineer contacted Tnemec’s coatings consultant, Rick Penner, for a high performance red coating that would not fade to pink like other coatings systems. Tnemec’s Series 1071 Fluoronar with Lumiflon FEVE resin technology was chosen for the bridge’s coating system for its long lasting color retention, ease of application and durability.

In a revitalization program of Oklahoma City, Mayor Mick Cornett would enlist civil engineers from all over the country in order to create an iconic footbridge that would span across Interstate 40. His vision for a bridge that reflects the city’s eccentricity and bright future was transposed into a beautiful tubular steel bridge. The 197-foot tall steel bird structure at one end is based on Oklahoma’s state bird, the scissor tailed flycatcher. The Skydance Bridge’s aesthetic is complemented with the use of Tnemec’s high-performance Series 1071 Fluoronar industrial coating with Lumiflon FEVE resin with unparalleled durability and resistance against outdoor exposure.
