The City of Moorhead in Minnesota is no novice when it comes to creating stunning water tank designs. The newest water tower is the city’s fourth and the most recent winner of the coveted Tank of the Year competition by coatings manufacturer Tnemec Company. The contest accepts water tower applications from around the country and chooses the top 12 designs, with Moorhead claiming the 2021 top spot.
Unlike the bulbous designs of the other three tanks, the fourth installation features a welded steel cylinder on a concrete pedestal. The tank showcases the growth of the community and the city’s commitment to high-quality water for its residents. The community submitted a collection of what they love most about their city. The attractions and activities were incorporated into the 750,000-gallon composite elevated tank’s design in a wrap-style mural. The tank is deemed a public art piece, serving the local community with a sense of pride as it adorns the Moorhead skyline.
The representatives at Tnemec describe, “[The tank was] completed using Tnemec’s fluoropolymer finish, HydroFlon, the project team has now added another stunning water tank to their skyline that will retain its vibrant color and gloss for a long time and serve as a community billboard to visitors near and far.”
The Series 700 HydroFlon fluoropolymer finish ensures long-lasting gloss and color retention. This next-generation, high-performance fluoropolymer contains Lumiflon FEVE technology, which primarily contributes to the coating system’s hyper-durability. In addition, Lumiflon FEVE resin protects water tank surfaces, helping prevent coating degradation at the hands of UV radiation, salt, and water. FEVE-based coatings also offer superior color and gloss retention and anti-corrosion properties that maintain the coating’s structural integrity.
