Lumiflon will be presenting at this year’s Waterborne Symposium on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Astor Crowne Plaza in New Orleans. Senior Applications Chemist, Donald Lawson will be giving a presentation regarding the latest developments in water based 1K and 2K FEVE coatings for applications requiring ultra-weatherability.
Abstract: FEVE waterbased resins were introduced to the coatings market over a decade ago. Since then, many coating manufacturers have tested these resins in high performance, low VOC coatings. This paper will present the latest developments in formulating with FEVE waterbased resins to achieve superior durability in weathering, physical properties, chemical resistance and corrosion resistance. A discussion of formulating guidelines when making both 2K waterbased FEVE polyurethane coatings and 1K heat-cured factory applications will be shared. The impact of NCO/OH index and catalyst presence on final properties will be presented, as well as the subsequent relationship of these properties to long term coating performance. Results of accelerated exposure testing of these formulations will be included – QUV Weatherometer, Xenon Arc Weatherometer and HE-XWM Weatherometer.
