The Brockweir Bridge in the Wye Valley was built in 1908 to replace the ferry. The historic Grade-II bridge spans the border between Wales and England and is a critical link between Brockweir and A46, just over the river Wye.
The bridge, as many of the time, was constructed with cast and wrought iron. The representatives at Unova Products describe, “This whole structure [from piers to spans] required refurbishment and repainting. Being situated in a difficult access location and on a tidal river, it was crucial to go for a long-life paint system that will protect the metal frame of the bridge, bring down maintenance intervals and extend the asset life of the structure.”

A&I Coatings’ Vitreflon FEVE Fluoropolymer system was specified to ensure a long lifespan and a durable finish. Samantha Lester from CC Infrastructure Services stated, “When utilizing the fluoropolymer paint system, you are trebling the paint’s life span and ultimately reducing maintenance costs and the project’s carbon footprint for a minimum total project cost increase.”

The benefits of a high-performance fluoropolymer-based system include an extended lifetime, anti-graffiti properties, and unmatched color and gloss retention. In addition, the Vitreflon FEVE fluoropolymer system reduces the potential need for costly recoating and significantly reduces maintenance costs.

A&I Coatings’ Vitreflon system is a low-VOC fluoropolymer that features Lumiflon FEVE resin. Substrates that feature FEVE resin technology are provided with longevity and durability, excellent color and gloss retention, anti-corrosion, and superior weatherability, essentially protecting architectural coatings from UV radiation, water, salt, and other elemental deterrents that contribute to coating degradation.
