Renowned muralist Eric Henn painted the award-winning Destin tank design. Henn is known for his memorable motifs on water and chemical storage tanks around the country. The Destin water tank won the coveted 2017 Tank of the Year competition by Tnemec Company.
In an interview with Tnemec, Henn describes, “The local water company, Destin Water Users, Inc., requested the tank recoat. They wanted the tank to represent the community, so we came up with the beach design and presented a mock-up to the team.”
SUEZ Water Advanced Solutions/Utility Service Group performed surface preparation of the tank and utilized Tnemec’s high-performance fluoropolymer finish coat, Series 700 HydroFlon.
Henn utilized 20 different colors of Tnemec’s fluoropolymer coating, and the mural took two months to complete as Henn works alone and uses brushes and rollers. Henn further described to Tnemec, “The tank’s proximity to the Gulf presented some problems during the application, namely excessive moisture in the evenings. So, I just had to be careful of the moisture levels and work when conditions were ideal.” The result was a beach motif with two chairs and an ocean view, a quintessential Florida scene.
The HydroFlon fluoropolymer finish ensures long-lasting gloss and color retention. This next-generation, high-performance fluoropolymer contains Lumiflon FEVE technology, which is the main contributor to the coating system’s hyper-durability. In addition, Lumiflon FEVE resin protects water tank surfaces, helping prevent coating degradation at the hands of UV radiation, salt, and water. FEVE-based coatings also offer superior color and gloss retention and anti-corrosion properties that maintain the coating’s structural integrity.
