Course Description:
Liquid and powder coatings each have particular characteristics, and a variety of nomenclature is used to achieve similar results—for example: high-performance coating of the aluminum components of a building. The architectural coatings industry has spent the last several years developing innovations in performance, durability and finish alternatives with these products. This seminar will update the design and construction community on the latest technologies to achieve AAMA compliance, improve finishes options, define nomenclature and discuss other topics that will help to correctly specify coatings.

Presenter: Arturo Lugo, AkzoNobel
Arturo Lugo is an architect who took a passion for coatings over 10 years ago and has dedicated himself to guiding the design and construction industry into choosing the right colors and specifications for projects. Lugo was born and raised in Puerto Rico; graduated with a degree in architecture from the City University of New York; started his career designing residential and commercial projects in the New York area; and continued his design experience developing healthcare and hospitality projects in the Caribbean, all while securing the NCARB architectural registration. In 2009, he joined AkzoNobel’s Decorative Paints Division to develop the architectural market though the Caribbean, additionally working very close with architecture students to educate the upcoming generation. In 2014, he took an opportunity with AkzoNobel’s Protective Coatings division to develop the engineering specification market in the Northeast U.S., working on significant infrastructure projects. In 2018, he joined the AkzoNobel Powder Coatings division to support architects in specifying facade coatings for global projects.
