When architects at Russell and Yelland Architects took up the task of unifying Reynella East College in Adelaide, Australia, the main goal was to transform the campus into a single entity. In order to create a complex that is able to accommodate up to 1800 students, faculty, and staff, the already existing early childhood, primary, and secondary schools had to undergo massive redevelopments.
The $24,363,000 million project was officially completed in 2013 and provided a plethora of new features. Such features include a child parent center, a newly refurbished junior primary and primary learning area, commercial kitchens that could support vocational educational, a new middle school accommodation, and a consolidated resource center. Though developing the plan to completing this project was complex, the end result was nothing short of stunning.
Reynella East College’s most recognizeable and new details are its bright yellow sunscreens and its fiber cement clad exterior, which gives the school a very vibrant and sunny appearance. VitraPanel printed CFC panels and VitraPanel prefinished CFC cladding, provided by Australia-based Vitragroup, were used on the sunscreens and the exterior, creating a positive and uplifting school environment.
Though these bright details make a world of difference in the school’s design, it was imperative that the correct coating system was applied to the fiber cement to ensure color and gloss retention. Fortunately, Vitrapanel is enriched with A&I Coatings’ Vitreflon, a Lumiflon FEVE resin-based fluoropolymer. Lumiflon FEVE resin technology provides a plethora of benefits for architectural applications that include durability, outstanding weatherability, and color and gloss retention properties which will ultimately keep the school’s sunscreens and exterior bright and sunny for decades.
