While standing seam metal roofs provide excellent protection from the elements and a longer lasting roofing solution than asphalt shingles, their primary downfall can be attributed to the premature failure of the baked on Kynar pvdf coatings.
When the roof of this luxury estate in Marshfield, Vermont began experiencing a premature coating failure, all-tech coatings, specialty coatings division of All-Tech Decorating, was chosen for the restoration. Using a coatings system with PPG's Coraflon ADS with Lumiflon FEVE fluoropolymer technology, All-Tech Coatings was able to achieve a factory-like finish that boasts superior weatherability and ultraviolet degradation resistance.
The metal roof panels were cleaned to SSPC-SP6 standards, down to the bare galvanized steel. Following the cleaning, an intermediate coat of epoxy-based primer was applied at 2.0-2.5 mil dry film thickness (DFT). The final coat of matte black Coraflon ADS FEVE fluoropolymer coating was applied at 1.5-2.0 mil DFT.
Despite the cooler ambient temperatures that Vermont is subjected to, the FEVE fluoropolymer coating system that All-Tech Coatings specifies for many of their roof restorations was still able to dry evenly, providing the factory-like finishes that many building owners request. This two-stage coating system with Lumiflon FEVE fluoropolymer technology has proven its adaptability and durability throughout the climates of the different regions of the United States.

LUMIFLON® provides architects with the option of using brighter colors and higher gloss, allowing gloss values as high as 90; offers the flexibility to be heat cured or cured at ambient temperature, giving fabricators a choice between shop application or application in the field; and can be used successfully on a number of materials, including steel, aluminum, fiberglass, concrete and polycarbonate for 30 years without fading.
